The Elkhart County Coroner’s Office team is made up of many different dedicated individuals with various backgrounds and fields, which include emergency responders, and funeral directors. We have all went through extensive schooling, training, externship prior to becoming certificated as a Medicolegal Death Investigator.

The Elkhart County Coroner’s Office investigates and determines a person’s cause and manner of death, particularly in cases when the individual died under accidental or unusual circumstances. The office consoles families, advocates for the deceased, and gives information to police and courts to prosecute suspected criminals.

All Elkhart County Coroners are Certified Medicolegal Death Investigators and members of the Indiana Coroners Association.

What We Do

  • Investigate deaths to determine the cause and manner of death
  • Provide training sessions on a large range of death-related issues to any school or organization upon request
  • Offer training for law enforcement
  • Serve all of Elkhart County including police agencies

The Elkhart County Coroner's Office monthly report includes statistics on the Coroner's office caseload, manner of death, and a breakdown of other statistical information. The annual report reflects the statistics for the calendar year.
