Elkhart County, Indiana (October 19, 2021) – The Elkhart County Commissioners have unanimously approved the conceptual design to improve a section of County Road 4 between County Road 17 and County Road 19.

In addition, the County Highway Department is now authorized to keep the project moving by advertising for bids with regard to clearing and grading, and begin necessary materials purchases.

“These improvements which include two roundabouts designed to facilitate easy vehicular movement, including commercial trucking near Elkhart’s County Road 17 Toll Road Exit, will improve safety in this area where we expect future commercial development,” said Suzie Weirick, President of the Elkhart County Commissioners. “It’s also an area where commercial investment will not encroach upon large residential areas. We know that’s important when it comes to quality of life in Elkhart County.”

“The recent announcement that Amazon will be employing 1,000 people along this stretch of County Road 4, is good news when it comes to diversifying our Elkhart County economy,” added Frank Lucchese, Vice President of the Elkhart County Commissioners. “As we land more large-scale employers like this, we’re creating a community that’s more resilient when it comes to the natural ups and downs of a global economy.”
